Wayne is still bitter about the promotion, and decides to slack off during a mission. He permits Lanny to do all of the work, which is disastrous. Meanwhile, Santa is informed mid-flight of a massive snow storm and that Wayne and Lanny have not fully prepared the house yet. He is told to cancel the landing, which has never happened before; they promise to make it up for Timmy, a boy living at the house. Wayne and Lanny discover that the re-routing was a final decision, but after hearing Timmy thank them in his sleep, Wayne decides to fix it. He calls up Santa, telling him that he must land at Timmy's house. Wayne and Lanny then work together to land Santa safely on Timmy's roof. On Christmas morning, Santa shows Wayne that Timmy had a merry Christmas. Santa offers a promotion to Wayne as the director of the nice list, but he turns it down so he can work with Lanny.
Prep & Landing includes a number of references and in-jokes left by the animators. Many pay homage to other Christmas specials and traditions. For example, Magee's office has the Christmas tree from A Charlie Brown Christmas.[9] Magee's coffee mug from Dr. H Dentistry is a nod to Hermey the Elf from the claymation Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. When Wayne prepares to enter Santa's office, Miss Holly is typing the lyrics to \"Jingle Bells\".[9] The clear to launch acknowledgement given by the flight controllers during the pre-launch check is \"Dash away\", and Magee's final clearance is \"Dash away all\" from the poem A Visit from St. Nicholas (\"Dash away, dash away, dash away all\").[9] Timmy Terwelp himself is named in honor of Tiny Tim, a character from Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol.[9]
An 8-page comic story, titled Prep & Landing: Mansion Impossible, was released on November 16, 2011, in Avengers #19, Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #20, and Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #20. The comic tells a story of Wayne and Lanny preparing Avengers Mansion for a visit from Santa. It was written by Kevin Deters, and illustrated by Joe Mateo.[12]
Parents need to know that this delightful holiday tale blends a unique story with clever humor and kid-friendly content, making it an excellent choice for the entire family. In typical Disney fashion, all of this entertaining content is wrapped up in positive messages about perseverance, unselfishness, and self-worth.

With exuberant Lanny's help, Wayne must rediscover the holiday spirit to save Christmas for a special little boy. The DVD comes with several funny extras including two shorts: \"Operation Secret Santa\" and \"Tiny's Big Adventure.\"
Compare this special's take on the North Pole residents' preparations for Christmas with what you've seen in other movies. What other movies/specials offer a behind-the-scenes look at Santa and the elves at work
The setting is a high-tech command center at the North Pole, where an elf named Magee (voiced by Sarah Chalke), the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator (NPCECCC for short) pairs a disgruntled elf named Wayne (Dave Foley), who after working tirelessly on Prep & Landing for 227 years, doesn't receive an expected promotion to be the Director of Naughty List Intelligence, which went to his sidekick Peterson. Instead, Magee partners Wayne with Lanny (Derek Richardson), an idealistic rookie who has an undying enthusiasm for Christmas, to prepare the world for the annual trip of Santa Claus. However, they get more than they can bargain for when a young boy named Timmy Terwelp captures them in action, enabling Lanny to respark the spirit of Christmas in Wayne. Meanwhile, Miss Holly, Santa's assistant gives a briefing back at the North Pole on the trip, and Magee gets word of a storm over Section 7, where they are located and utters \"Oh, frostbite\" and calls out a code of \"figgy pudding\", passing by Timmy's house, but Wayne decides to override Magee's call to pass by and visit the house. However, prep is lost when their tracking and landing device is lost in said snowstorm so they improvise from a display using an inflatable Santa snow globe, and save Santa's sleigh from disaster. In the end, Santa gives Wayne a snowglobe with a miniature version of Timmy's house, and they see him enjoying Christmas... and turns down a promotion to being in charge of the Nice List Intelligence.
Prep and Landing became the first Disney property to officially cross over with Marvel's characters with the story \"Mansion: Impossible\", in which Wayne and Lanny must prepare the Avengers Mansion for Christmas. The story appeared in Avengers #19, Super-Heroes #20 and Spider-Man #20 in November 2011.
Wayne is an old pro who's been working on Prep and Landing for over 200 years and is finally hoping to receive a promotion. After being turned down, he is teamed up with a new recruit, Lanny. The two head off to Timmy's house to prepare for Santa's arrival. But with Lanny's inexperience and Wayne's new defeatist attitude, things go wrong real quickly, and the house is not prepped in time. And with the threat of a terrible snow storm, it appears that Santa has no choice but to skip Timmy's house that year. Realizing the error of his ways, Wayne only has a limited amount of time to make things right.
It is also the first Disney property to cross over with Marvel in the comic story \"Mansion: Impossible\" in which Wayne and Lanny must prepare the Avengers Mansion for Santa's arrival. This ran as a backup in The Avengers (Vol 4) #19 and two Marvel Adventures books.
The special begins with an introduction to the eponymous Prep & Landing, an elite unit of Christmas elves who, on Christmas Eve every year, are sent ahead to secretly prepare the houses he visits for the arrival of Santa Claus (codenamed \"the Big Guy\"). The story focuses on Wayne, who has been working tirelessly as a Prep & Landing elf for 227 years and is expecting to be promoted to Director of Naughty List Intelligence. However, Magee, the North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center Coordinator (NPCECCC for short) informs him that the promotion has instead gone to his old partner and former trainee, Peterson. Thusly, Wayne is now partnered with Lanny, an idealistic rookie who has an undying enthusiasm for Christmas.
That Christmas Eve, Wayne and Lanny are brought to \"Sector 7\", the neighborhood of the first house they have to prep for Santa. Wayne, feeling bitter about not receiving the promotion, decides to slack off during the mission and permits Lanny to do all of the work, which proves to be disastrous. However, Wayne gets more than either one of them bargained for when the kid who lives in this house, a young boy named Timmy Terwelp, comes upon him and attempts to befriend him. Lanny sees Timmy up and about and hits him with a \"sparkle ornament\" that puts him back to sleep. As the two elves bring Timmy back to his bed, Wayne admits to Lanny that he's lost his enthusiasm for the job. Lanny finds that unbelievable, pointing out to Wayne how much Timmy is looking forward to being visited by Santa.
Meanwhile, Miss Holly, Santa's assistant, gives a briefing back at the North Pole on the trip, and Magee gets word of a snowstorm over Sector 7. When she contacts Wayne about the storm, she also learns that Wayne and Lanny haven't fully prepped Timmy's house. Magee calls Santa about this and says she is forced to declare \"figgy pudding\" (the equivalent of \"code red\"), meaning that Santa will have to cancel visiting Timmy's house.
Not wanting to let Timmy down, Wayne regains his enthusiasm for his job. He tells Magee to patch him through to the big guy, saying that he and Lanny have a plan as to provide a safe landing for Santa despite the snowstorm. However, their tracking and landing device is lost in the storm, so the duo improvise from a display using an inflatable Santa snow globe from a neighbor's decorations (which Lanny had noticed when he and Wayne arrived), and save Santa's sleigh from disaster.
The disgruntled Wayne decides he'll slack off this Christmas Eve and let Lanny do all the work. \"The figgy pudding hits the fan\" when a massive snow storm moves in and the elves haven't finished their prep work at little Timmy's house.
In Friday's episode, \"Homegrown Heroes,\" she shows how military veterans returning home create new lives for themselves as farmers and caretakers. In addition, a farm-to-table feast prepared by, and for, veterans.
Landing Signals Officers help guide the plane in to a successful landing through radio communication as well as a collection of lights on the deck. Since Santa also pilots a flying vehicle and must make landings on multiple unusual surfaces, Disney storyman Chris Williams wondered if the jolly old elf also might have a flight crew doing the preparations on Christmas Eve.
